Moving Pets with A.A. American Moving & Storage
Pets have special needs and requirements during a move. Pets also have instinctive fears about their new surroundings. It is important to make sure you plan ahead to ensure you are providing the safest and best move option for your pet.
In many cases, states and individual communities have regulations about the entry of many types of animals. International rules and restrictions are more strict and limiting.
Special requirements regarding health certificates, permits and rabies tags are required for most types of animal travel.
A general checklist for moving your pet includes:
- Take your pet to your veterinarian for a checkup and health records; ask for a recommendation of a veterinarian in your new location
- Check destination state’s pet entry regulations
- Obtain entry permit and travel identification tag if needed
- If moving internationally, consult a pet moving expert to help with the details of moving your pet
Pets cannot be moved in moving vans. Animals, except for leader dogs and certified assistance dogs, also are not allowed on trains and buses. So, transportation of pets is limited to:
- By air, with the pet accompanying you, if the pet meets size requirements; or in an appropriate container traveling as air freight
- In your personal vehicle
For any long-distance pet moving, it is best to consult with experts in the area of pet transportation.
